NATIONAL FENTANYL AWARENESS DAY (WEAR PURPLE DAY) IS APRIL 29th

(April 17, 2025, Salisbury, MD) The safety and well-being of our community is our highest priority. Therefore, the Wicomico County Health Department is honored to participate in National Fentanyl Awareness Day on April 29, 2025, by wearing purple to represent solidarity in this initiative. In collaboration with numerous organizations nationwide, we are committed to safeguarding lives from the dangers posed by illicit fentanyl. Although recent data indicates some progress in decreasing overdose deaths, fentanyl continues to represent a significant threat to our communities, particularly to our community members aged 55+ and people of color. Preliminary data from the Maryland Department of Health shows that 100% of the opioid related overdoses in Wicomico County contained fentanyl, and among those overdoses 42% were people of color.

We encourage you to take action by:

  • Learning the facts about today’s drug landscape
  • Starting conversations with your family about fentanyl safety
  • Sharing lifesaving information using #NFAD2025 Visit fentanylawarenessday.org for resources, videos, guides and tools to help protect your loved ones.

Additionally, knowing available resources and how to access them, or help others access them, is critical.
