FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) Awards Grant to State Designated Management Service Organizations (MSOs) for Expanding Telehealth Adoption in Ambulatory Practices
Three State Designated Management Service Organizations (MedTech Enginuity Corporation, Syndicus NACON, and Zane Networks, LLC) are eligible to receive grant funding to support telehealth adoption among ambulatory health care practices in Maryland.
Baltimore, Maryland (May 4, 2020). The Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) announced the award of a grant to three Management Service Organizations (MSOs): MedTech Enginuity Corporation, Syndicus NACON, and Zane Networks, LLC. The purpose of this grant is to provide support to expand the adoption and use of telehealth technology by health care providers in ambulatory practices, including doctors’ offices. The award was made in response to a competitive grant announcement released in early April 2020. A maximum total funding of $500,000 is provided for the project. Funding amounts for each
MSO will be based on the number of practices the MSO supports.
Health care providers are increasing use of telehealth as part of their approach to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, patients are discouraged from traveling to a medical office or facility unless absolutely necessary. Telehealth is a means to provide safe, reliable access to both health care services for both routine health care needs (such as management of chronic diseases and preventive care) and some urgent health care needs. In the future, the Maryland Health Care Commission expects that health care providers may shift their long-term business models to use both telehealth and in-person encounters.
The MSOs will support telehealth adoption in ambulatory health care practices statewide. The adoption strategy includes completion of a telehealth readiness assessment and development of an implementation plan that helps practices prioritize and address areas of improvement identified in the telehealth readiness assessment results. MSOs will develop telehealth workflows in collaboration with each practice and ensure practice staff are appropriately trained on the technology and new workflows. Health care practices can request support from an MSO by contacting Melanie Cavaliere, the Chief of Innovative Care Delivery in the Center for Health Information Technology and Innovative Care Delivery at the Maryland Health Care Commission ([email protected]; 410-764-3282).
